As licensed therapists/hostage negotiators we utilize an eclectic form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) to partner with clients to meet their goals. Our approach to counseling often uses less time and is equally as effective as other traditionally more time intensive forms of therapy. Solution-Focused Therapy is short term because it is future-focused and uses the strengths and competencies of the client. By partnering with the client this form of therapy builds solutions now rather than dwelling solely on the past. Utilizing Cognitive Behavioral techniques enables us to help clients modify irrational thinking and behaviors, as well as learn skills to better manage their lives. Both models have been found effective when working with clients with many different issues, as well as to help minimize tension in a crisis situation and encourage a positive outcome.
Clients of the clinic have experienced a diverse range of issues including stress, depression and anxiety, chronic mental health issues, substance abuse, job related stressors and relationship difficulties. Midcities Center for Change works with children, adolescents, and adults in both individual counseling, group therapy, and play therapy.
